The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Programming Assistant & Assistant Director to the Director of the Community Center.
Under the supervision of the Community Center Director, assists in planning, developing, coordinating & implementing a wide variety of activities, classes, &/or events for the Community Center.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administration and Management Positions, Recreation Specialist Series 0188.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience include planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs.
Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels.
Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management; or serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.
OREDUCATION: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with a major study in a subject area related to the position to be filled OR have a bachelor's degree in a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement.

ORCOMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level.
TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KS As): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques to assist in the planning and implementing a recreational program offering a variety of community activities and events to a serviced community.
Knowledge of basic analysis elements to evaluate program efficiency and ability to adapt or correct existing programs to customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of common budgetary practices, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures as relating to various Community Center activities.
Ability to use one or more established computer programs/software ( Microsoft Office) to enter, maintain, sort, and retrieve organizational and/or program data.
Ability and skills to help out in a variety of recreational duties such as clerical/administrative and some minor maintenance assistance.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i. e. , Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e. g. , professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
