This position reports to Trade Compliance Manager Your role and responsibilities In this role, you will have the opportunity to support product staff and LBL Trade Operations Managers by classifying products, software, and technology that ABB exports or imports with respect to government export control (dual-use and military) and customs ( Harmonized System) lists.
You will also support with the classification of purchased third-party products, software, and raw materials.
The Product Classification Engineer has a functional reporting line to the Local Trade Compliance Officer.
The work model for the role is: #LI- Hybrid.
This role contributes to the Distribution Solutions Division within the Electrification Business Area in Dalmine (BG).
You will be mainly accountable for: Managing and updating master data of ABB products, technologies, and software (product description, HTS code, ECN/ECCN numbers) and supporting customs declarants with product information required for master data management and entries.
Preparation of Product Classification Reports by conducting thorough research and analysis of ABB products.
Regular analysis of the goods to be sold and/or shipped during the coming months (or past months for book-to-bill business with no backlog), identification and classification of products, software, and/or technologies, especially in case of critical regulatory developments.
Providing support regarding classification of purchased goods and finished products, preferably well on time before import, export, and shipment.
Providing support to TMC ( Transport Management Center) when goods need to be declared with customs on short notice and/or are under inspection of the customs authorities.
Accountable for collecting long-term declarations needed from suppliers (e. g. , preferential, non-preferential origin) for purchased goods.
Reviewing ECN/ECCN and HTS classifications with the ( Country) Trade Compliance Officer, updating master data in SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) with ECN/ECCN and HTS classification as required.
Continually maintaining knowledge on export control and customs regulation with relevant internal and external training (where applicable), as well as E- Learnings on ABB Inside / ABB University and applicable internal instructions, guidelines, handbooks.
Identifying and developing improvement projects for the digitalization of classification-related processes.
Qualifications for the role Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering.
Experience with export control and customs rules and regulations (export control training / basic intermediate customs trainings are a plus).
Good knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point, SAP, and SAP Global Trade Services (GTS).
Knowledge of Power BI, technical knowledge of products, software, and technologies sold and/or exported by Local Business Line (LBL) in Dalmine ( Distribution Solutions, Service) are nice to have.
Ability to communicate in English and Italian, both written and spoken.
Business mindset, high level of responsiveness, promoter of change, high skills in data analysis, and focus on details.
Good communication skills to interact with several functions (mainly procurement, trade office, order handling, product management, industrialization department, sales department).
