WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR EU Institutions: Back-end Developer Join our client’s team as a Back-end Developer at the Joint Research Centre in Ispra ( Varese). The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's in-house science and knowledge service.
It serves as the European Union's reference center for scientific and technical expertise, providing independent research and analysis to support EU policies.
The JRC addresses a wide range of challenges facing society, including climate change, energy security, food safety, and innovation.
Through its research, the JRC aims to contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of EU policies, ensuring they are evidence-based and effective. YOUR TASKS Designing and developing multi-tier Java-based web applications Implementing solutions within the Spring Framework Working with JEE and micro-service architectures Contributing to data modeling and physical database design Development of back-end website applications. Implement core business logic. Creation of servers and databases for functionality. Design and implementation of data storage solutions. Understanding and implementation of security and data protection. Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability. Design and develop AP Is. Maintenance of code integrity and organisation. Writing clean, functional code on the back-end. Compile and analyse data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement. Meet both technical and consumer needs. Write technical documentation. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE The following specific expertise is requested for the performance of tasks: Proven experience in designing and developing multi-tier Java-based web applications Proficiency with Oracle databases and Java Persistence API (JPA) Strong familiarity with the Spring Framework Experience with JEE and micro-service architectures Ability to contribute to data modeling and physical database design Proficiency with back-end languages and frameworks such as Java, PHP, Spring boot and Hibernate. Strong understanding of the web development cycle and programming techniques and tools. Knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git or SVN. The following skills are required: Autonomous. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Attention to details. Good problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team Due to the particular nature of a large international organization such as the European Commission, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills: Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in team Ability to make presentations to Member State Authorities and other stakeholders, excellent communicator Ability to participate in multilingual meetings Ability to work in multi-cultural environment, on multiple large projects Excellent Team Player Very good ability to understand, speak and write in very good English (C1/C2), knowledge of any other language will be an advantage High degree of discretion and integrity is required as the applications managed and maintained contain personal and confidential data EXTRA INFORMATION Work location: JRC in Ispra, Varese possibility to telework up to 60% of the weekly working time.
Both employee and freelance competitive contracts.
