WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Cloud & Dev Ops Engineer - ESA Missions Location: Rome | Hybrid (2 days on-site, 3 days remote) Passionate about space technology and cloud infrastructure? Join our client’s elite team in Rome, a trusted partner of European governments and international organizations.
With 30+ years of expertise, they specialize in IT and space services, offering operational and engineering support for Earth observation missions, satellite data processing, and applied research.
As a Cloud & Dev Ops Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in overseeing real-time mission operations, ensuring system integrity, and optimizing cloud-based infrastructure to support ESA’s satellite missions.
You will be responsible for monitoring performance, diagnosing and resolving operational issues, automating workflows, and enhancing system reliability for mission-critical applications.
YOUR TASKS Oversee real-time monitoring and operation of ESA missions to ensure integrity and performance in cloud environments.
Diagnose, resolve, and prevent operational issues, ensuring minimal downtime through proactive monitoring and automated solutions.
Analyze system performance, implement improvements, and optimize cloud-based processes.
Develop and maintain scripts for automation of infrastructure management and mission operations.
Assist with new software deployments, system integrations, and upgrades, ensuring seamless transitions.
Maintain clear operational procedures and technical documentation for cloud-based mission systems.
Perform routine application maintenance to sustain optimal performance and security. YOUR SKILLS Proficiency in Linux administration and troubleshooting for mission-critical environments.
Strong Shell Scripting skills ( Bash, Python, or equivalent) to automate tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerized deployments and orchestration.
Good understanding of storage solutions and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for scalable mission support.
Expertise in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization to ensure seamless system operations.
Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VP Ns, firewalls) for cloud and on-premise integrations.
Experience in requirements analysis, project planning, and technical reporting, supporting continuous improvements.
Excellent command of the English language (B2 or higher) for technical documentation and collaboration.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly, fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. NICE TO HAVE Familiarity with monitoring and logging platforms such as Grafana, Kibana, and Elasticsearch.
Basic knowledge of web technologies, including HTML and XML.
Basic experience with web and application servers, such as Apache and Tomcat.
Fundamental understanding of Python programming for automation and scripting.
Basic knowledge of OpenLDAP for authentication and access control.
Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL, and Elasticsearch.
Experience working with ESA mission environments and understanding of ESA operational frameworks.
Familiarity with satellite product standards and space industry protocols.
Experience in monitoring and operating satellite missions, ensuring system integrity and mission success. PERSONAL SKILLS Proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem identification, troubleshooting, and resolution.
