Role Mission: The Optical Engineer will participate to the definition of the Optical topics under the leadership of his/her supervisor and will autonomously develop some of the elements.
The duties and responsibilities of the Optical Engineer include: To design and develop receiving and illumination subsystems for optoelectronic devices such as 2D and 3D cameras, barcode laser scanners.
To design optical components, such as receiving lenses for image sensors or photodiodes, transmitting lenses for LE Ds or lasers, deflecting mirrors, light filters and reading windows.
To design/simulate imaging and non-imaging optics through ray tracing software (e. g.
Zemax).
To contribute to design optical systems that include tunable/movable parts such as liquid-lenses, oscillating mirrors and rotating polygon mirrors.
To define detailed requirements of new optical parts to be designed, starting from requirements of new products to be developed.
To collaborate with other R&D functions (i. e.
Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineering teams) in the definition of feasibility-analysis and validation plans of new products to be developed.
To define and agree test pass-criteria with suppliers of the designed parts to be prototyped and then produced in mass volumes.
To perform measurements and functional tests on prototypes and alpha/beta samples of the designed parts/systems, by using the needed instruments and equipment.
To support Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team in implementing and optimizing mass-production processes involving optical parts/systems.
To support Procurement team in scouting and assessing new suppliers of optical components.
Core Competency Requirements: The ideal candidate should have the following skills: Thorough knowledge of optical fundamentals: geometrical optics, polarization, interference, diffraction, Fourier optics, Gaussian beam propagation.
Skilled in both simulation and experimental activities.
Good programming skills in high-level software such as Matlab or Python for analyzing simulation and experimental data.
Good command of Zemax Optic Studio (preferred).
Good command of Math Works MATLAB or Python (preferred).
Analytical, critical and lateral thinking.
Attention to detail.
Requirements: Education: Master’s Degree in Optical Engineering or Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or Physics.
Languages: Italian; English ( Intermediate).
Years of Experience: 3 - 5 years of experience on the following topics: 1) Optical design through sequential or non-sequential ray tracing software (e. g.
Zemax Optic Studio), 2) Optical measurements and characterizations through laboratory equipment such as Lens MTF Meter, Spectroradiometer and Goniophotometer. #J-18808- Ljbffr
