POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Agro-tech intern, you will commit to a 4–9-month internship, dedicating up to 40 hours per week. You are expected to represent your skills and qualifications accurately and work collaboratively with our team to achieve the best outcomes for the project and your professional development. This role provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in permaculture practices while contributing to agricultural initiatives. You will combine research and applied field work experience to complete company goals and deliverables.
Note that you will be responsible for covering your own food and accommodation expenses during the internship.
This internship will take place in Ragusa, Sicily and the length is 4-9 months and starts in August/ September 2025
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY
• Develop and implement innovative agricultural technologies to improve crop yields, reduce environmental impact, and increase efficiency.
• Monitor and record ecosystem changes over time through careful, periodic observations of flora and fauna health and climatic data.
• Research and test new agricultural technologies and practices.
• Analyse data to identify trends and areas for improvement in agricultural systems.
• Develop and implement sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, such as climate change, soil degradation, and water scarcity.
• Establish ecosystem baseline by cataloguing site flora and fauna as well as the qualities of desired plants. (growth speed, seeding capacity, etc).
• Conduct soil health metrics, such as water infiltration and percolation tests, basal ground cover, etc.
• Participate in site design planning and execution by researching native plant communities, off grid systems, technological opportunities for agricultural automatization and monitoring.
• Sharing of undertaken observations of the land and experiments, as well as your ideas and suggestions based on how the site is evolving.
• Support on-ground development of the site by helping establish critical supply sources.
• Dimension and contribute to planning of water resources, irrigation, greywater systems and similar engineering projects.
• Work may include reaching out to, visiting suppliers for, and securing seeds, plants, composts, and other supplies or equipment needed.
• Carry out other project duties as needed (due to the nature of the work, we cannot predict all project needs in advance).
RequirementsKNOWLEDGE &SKILLS
• Advanced level of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Italian and Sicilian language is a plus.
• Experience in and/or completed coursework in ecosystem restoration, permaculture, syn-tropic farming, agro-forestry, regenerative farming, and/or related area(s).
• Basics in programming languages, such as Python, R, or MATLAB.
• Experience with data analysis and visualisation tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Knowledge of engineering principles, such as mechanical, electrical, civil engineering or environmental sciences.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with farmers, engineers, and scientists.
• Interest in technology and software for environmental analysis and monitoring.
• Love for nature.
• Proven track record and/or ability to demonstrate personal reliability and teamwork.
• Proactive communication within work.
• Independently manage their time to complete work in a quality manner.
• Ask for help when needed and look for opportunities to support the whole team to achieve goals.
• Is organized, detail-oriented, and flexible.
• Able to do fieldwork safely, including lifting up to 20 kilos.
• Possesses intermediate skills in using office software (e. g. , email, Word, Power Point, etc. ).
• Knowledge in GIS is valuable.
